HP Recommended Product: ENVY Photo 7858 Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

New HP ENVY Photo 7858 purchased from Costco less than 1 month ago. Everything has worked so far. I attempted to use the document feeder for the first time to copy some papers. It gives me an error message, " Reload original", "The document feeder was not able to pick up the original.", etc., but then spits out a blank page as if it copied the vacant scanner. I have verified there is no packing tape, it is clean, the rollers roll, nothing looks out of place. Please help.

If you have never used to document feeder it is possible that a piece of packaging is blocking the feed path. If the top adf lid opens pull it open and check for jams. You can also try flossing the ADF path by pushing a piece of paper through in the normal direction of travel. Normally you will need a heavier paper or thin plastic strip to do this.

Everything you suggested is obvious, but I tried again just to go through the motions. Needless to say, the printer went back to Costco this morning. Observation: I saw the this printer's twin sitting on the return shelf behind the desk. Suspicious.

Note, I am dire need of the printer, so I asked to trade it in for another (even swap). No joy; they said they had to process the refund and I had to make a new purchase. The printer is now $25 more than last month! This new, more expensive, replacement printer has 30 days to "wow" me, else it will suffer the same fate: to sit on the eternal shelf of returns, without a purpose, destined to consume the ever shrinking space of my local landfill.
